April Smallwood, a seasoned Frontend Developer and UI/UX Designer, discovered her passion for art at the age of 12, mastering oil painting, color theory, and unique compositions. Her journey into digital graphics began in high school, earning college-level credits and kickstarting her career.
Throughout her Associates-level training, April excelled in various positions involving digital graphics and computer technology. She held her first assistant designer role and interned at prestigious print and design firms in downtown Jacksonville, Florida.
Driven by a desire to delve into the technical aspects of design, April pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Information Technology, maintaining a stellar 4.0 GPA. Her transition to web development started with a Junior Web Developer role at Baptist Health Jacksonville, where she mastered HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, C#, C++, .Net Core, and MVC.
At Baptist Health, April played a pivotal role in crafting the mobile-first version of baptistjax.com, displaying proficiency in both static and dynamic page coding. She contributed to the children’s hospital website and various microsites for fundraising campaigns, demonstrating her versatility.
Transitioning to remote contracting, April embraced freelancing for seven years, specializing in WordPress CMS and UI/UX design using Sketch App and Figma. She’s adept at creating custom-coded solutions and has a robust background in C#, PHP, SQL, and recently completed the C# .NET Core 7 with MS SQL course on Udemy.
In her pursuit of excellence, April has dabbled in coding custom AI models, showcasing determination and focus on complex tasks.
